Although super-heroes reign supreme in today’s comic books, the Golden Age of comics featured a wider variety of subjects. Mel Allen, the sportscaster for the New York Yankees in the 1940s and 1950s, is featured in this title that uses sports-oriented stories as morality plays to illustrate how organized sports can be an important factor in self-fulfillment. Stories use sports as a vehicle to teach honesty, to illustrate the value of teamwork and to avoid juvenile delinquency.
