Mr. Natural

Easily one of R. Crumb’s more endearing creations, Mr. Natural is what you would call—if he were one of your relatives—“a real character.” Cheerful yet curmudgeonly at the same time, he is seen as a great spiritual leader by thousands of fanboys. Mr. Natural dismisses such thinking, instead playing silly little tricks on anyone dumb enough to follow him. Pressed for his ideas on the secret of life, all he can come up with is, “Hang Loose.”

Who knows? Maybe he’s a spiritual master after all…

Mr. Natural #1 first appeared way back in 1970, with infrequent issues appearing in the years since. Today, this underground classic can be found in at least its eight printing and is now published by Kitchen Sink.
