In 1941, Albert L. Kanter hit upon the idea of using comic books to introduce children to the joy of reading. He adapted some of the great classics of literature into comic-book form, then sold his creation, Classic Comics, to parents and educators. After a shaky start, the series changed its name to Classics Illustrated, and went on to become one of the best-loved comic series of all time.

In 1990, First Comics reintroduced the series in a deluxe, beautifully illustrated format. This new series makes the old favorites fresh again, breathing new life into this great line of comics.
