Graphic Nonfiction: Abraham Lincoln

    (Rosen, 2005)
™ and © Rosen

Despite his humble beginnings, Abraham Lincoln became a successful lawyer and congressman, and eventually the 16th President of the United States during the turbulent years of the Civil War. It was a war he didn’t seek, and though he wasn’t in favor of slavery, neither was Lincoln an abolitionist, feeling that the issue should be dealt with slowly by individual states. However, as President he promoted freedom for all citizens, and will forever be remembered as the man who reunited the nation and freed the slaves. His assassination will be remembered as one of the darkest moments in history.

Lincoln was also responsible for the first national banking system and first paper currency, and expanded the nation westward with the Homestead Act and railroad development.

This text/comic book includes information about the political climate of the time, key military and political figures, and pivotal moments of the Civil War.
