Here Come the Big People

One of the stranger stories to come down the pike in recent times, at least by the standards of “mainstream” comics, is Here Come the Big People, an Event Comics one-shot from 1997. Written by Trace Beaulieu, with art by Amanda Connor and Jimmy Palmiotti, Here Come the Big People tells the tale of computer magnate Austin Milcsop and his quest to create technology that perfectly replicates the comfort and security of “life in Mommy’s house.” He and his team succeed beyond their wildest dreams, aided by a timely invasion of shape-shifting aliens. Here Come the Big People offers some hilarious and wildly original insights into the infantilism of the techno-geek mind, and is told with a deeply mean streak of biting humor. The deluxe, full-color packaging hopefully helped this offbeat indie book reach its audience.
