The figure of Big Boy was originally just the symbol for a series of restaurant chains. But the pudgy tyke, in his distinctive checkered overalls, has become something of a cultural icon. His likeness even appeared in an episode of Fox TV’s animated series The Simpsons. Big Boy, along with his girlfriend Dolly, and other friends, appeared in 466 issues of this comic, which was given free to restaurant customers.

Besides the regular stories, the comic also featured puzzles and educational pages for kids. Published primarily as an in-store advertisement, the series ventured into the mainstream comic world with issue #266, which featured a crossover with Superman.
