Bereft of her faith in both God and humanity, a heartbroken woman seeks a place of solitude to end her life. Ironically, she chooses a church, where her suicide is forestalled by the pastor. Dazed, she reluctantly accepts his seemingly hopeless offer to prove to her the existence of God.

Claiming that God is evident in everyday events, the pastor uses newspaper articles to back his theory. But although the stories do present the possibility of paranormal occurrences, they also expose the evil and insanity people are capable of. The third story, however, about the death of a small boy, drives the woman over the edge of despair, and the pastor realizes too late the gravity of the situation.

Although they struggle briefly, he seems helpless to stop the woman from killing herself. But at the last possible moment, the woman responds to a voice only she seems able to hear, and, miraculously, the crisis passes.
