Hyperkind Unleashed!
(Marvel, 1994)
™ and ©1994 Marvel Characters, Inc.
In the 1930s, five humans were given the ability to transform into super-heroes by a peaceful, alien race. These aliens are trying to give Earth a weapon against two other alien races whose longtime war tended to destroy any planet in the way. Those enhanced humans became the Paxis, who were later wiped out and the memory of them erased.
Decades later, four ethnically diverse Los Angeles teens are given the ability to transform into new versions of the Paxis. But when they discover their powers are needed on other planets, the moral implications of not giving the powers back weigh heavily. Meanwhile, a botched drug deal and one team member’s connection to a ruthless drug gang put their identities in jeopardy. Then the team discovers its benefactor might not be quite the upstanding being the team was led to believe.
Horror writer Clive Barker created this concept, which was scripted by Fred Burke and presented in a splash-page heavy format with lots of things going on all at once, on every page.
