Marvel Super-Heroes Megazine kicked off in October, 1994. During the previous two decades, the price of the cheapest new comic had risen from 20¢ to $1.50—an amazing 750% inflation in price. Even then, a glut of specials and cover enhancements had pushed the cost of the average comic well over the $2.00 mark. For all this, the reader got only 32 pages, a quarter of them ads.

Marvel attempted to fix the problem by borrowing a page–or rather, 64 of them—from the past. Marvel Super-Heroes Megazine took the idea of “100 page spectaculars” (actually, 96—they counted the covers) from DC’s old line of reprint specials. Here, readers are treated to four complete comics in one book, but for a little less than twice as much money. Furthermore, the stories reprinted were excellent. Among them are issues from John Byrne’s run on Fantastic Four and The Incredible Hulk, Frank Miller’s Daredevil, and John Romita Jr.’s Iron Man.
