Heroes Reborn: The Return

Faced with sagging sales on their core super-hero titles, Marvel Comics turned over the reins of Fantastic Four, The Avengers, Captain America, and Iron Man to Jim Lee, Rob Liefeld, and other one-time Marvel artists who had since left to form Image Comics. The result was “Heroes Reborn,” a revamped Marvel Universe that restarted the aforementioned titles at Vol. 2, #1, and bore only slight resemblance to established continuity.

Twelve months later (the length of the contracts with the new teams), Marvel undid the whole thing by “returning” the established heroes to their place in the mainstream Marvel Universe. The other universe, it seems, was merely a pocket universe created by young Franklin Richards. Credit this series which gives us one of the great lines of dialogue: “Mom! Dad! They told me I gotta wipe out a universe…and I don’t know which one…! Tell which one I should get ridda…and promise you won’t be mad at me…?”
