T.V. Heroes
(L. Miller & Son, 1959)
™ and © 1959 L. Miller & Co.
TV Heroes, publishing in the UK in the late 1950s, is certainly one of comics’ oddest efforts to generate crossover appeal with television. Purporting to be “pictures stories of historical characters who have become TV heroes,” a disclaimer on the book nevertheless states “The publishers wish to make it clear that there is no connection between this magazine and the transmission of any television program.” Okay…TV Heroes packages several short features including “William Tell and the Peasants” (Prince Valiant-era Medieval adventure), “Pioneer Trail” (Western) and “The Landing” (science fiction) along with one page humorous shorts like “Little Dan the TV Fan,” “Prof Schnorrer the TV Explorer” and “Nelly on the Telly.” This is a crude package of black and white pages between color newsprint covers.
