Everyone thought it was 1959. Ragle Gumm was living with his sister and her family, every day solving the nationally syndicated puzzle Where Will the Little Green Man be Next? and not doing much of anything else. Life was easy and all so very normal.
But Ragle Gumm's normal life began to unravel. One day in the park he turned away from the soft drink stand for a moment and when he turned back it was gone, replaced by a piece of paper that read "soft drink stand"; the programs coming in over the radio weren't listed in any newspaper and seemed to be coming from invisible aircraft. Then things started to get really strange. Ragle Gumm was sure that he was losing his mind.
He was wrong. He was going sane, and the year was 1996.
