Baron Gong Battle
(Anime Works, 2005)
™ and © 1998 Masayuki Taguchi
Series reads right to left; b&w
Despite the small dimensions of the book itself, Baron Gong Battle has the feel of a big–budget, testosterone–charged, over–the–top summer blockbuster in the vein of a Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer production. Living up to the promise of its title, the book explodes with violence from almost the first page and doesn’t stop pouring it on, easily earning the parental advisory on the front cover. Baron Gong Battle also includes other standard popcorn movie elements such as sexy, scantily–clad women, a stoic anti–hero, and a Nazi experiment. The story follows Baron Gong as he sets out on a quest for revenge. His intention is to hunt down and kill a race of homicidal super–human creatures known as Neo Humes. Along the way mayhem and grisly fighting ensues.
