Wonderland
(Arrow, 1998)
™ and ©1998 Ralph Griffin, Stuart Kerr, Danny Wall
Ever wonder what it would be like if the characters from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and the characters from L. Frank Baum’s Oz books teamed up? Well, you don’t have to. Arrow Comics released Dark Oz and this title, in which Dorothy Gale, Alice, the Hatter, the Cheshire Cat and various other characters from both sets of children’s stories team up to fight the Red Queen (who, as you might suspect, is bent on taking off everyone’s heads). Alas, this black-and-white independent is a bit too impressed with itself, the dialogue isn’t really in keeping with that of either set of books, and the two sets of characters don’t exactly gel. This same concept was attempted—and much more successfully so—when DC Comics sent its funny-animal heroes, Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew, off to fight in the limited series known as the Oz-Wonderland War.
