Doctor Who has been running successfully on BBC TV for decades, and has starred in comic strips for nearly as long.

In an interesting plot device, The Doctor is said to be able to regenerate his body up to a dozen times. This accounts not only for his own longevity, but helps immensely when it comes time to retire the actors that play him—the old Doctor simply goes through a regeneration cycle, and the new actor/Doctor appears in his stead.

Five-penny comic magazines such as Countdown, TV Action + Countdown, TV Action, and TV Comic carried the adventures of Britain’s favorite Timelord in serial format. Currently, Marvel Comics holds the comic rights to Doctor Who, and publishes both the current tales in their Doctor Who Magazine, and the early stories in Doctor Who Classic Comics.
