A world of peace and prosperity is torn apart by the evil usurper Taishakuten, whom no one dares to oppose. But there’s hope to be found in a prophecy that says one day Six Stars will overthrow him. Fate sends the reluctant warrior king Yasha on a quest to gather them together; while on it, Yasha meets the strange boy Ashura, the last of his clan who’s destined to kill him.

Even if we weren’t immediately told on the cover that this Indian–inspired fantasy was Clamp’s first manga, it’s pretty obvious. Not because it’s amateurishly done in any way; it’s thoroughly professional in every aspect. It just doesn’t look much like any of the studio’s other works, the story has none of its signature nuances, and all the characters are thinly drawn. The only one of them which makes any sort of impression is a dancer named Gigei who becomes smitten with Yasha but isn’t given much to do. Ultimately, it’s more of historical significance for Clamp’s fans than entertaining in its own right.
