In the jungle-covered country of Bangalla, the Phantom is known as “the ghost that walks”—the man who never dies. In reality, the Phantom is not one man, but many. The first was a boy named Kit who was thrown overboard when his father’s ship was attacked by pirates. Kit washed ashore in Bandalla where he was taken in by natives. He swore vengeance on pirates, becoming the costumed adventurer known as the Phantom. A dynasty began, so that when a Phantom dies, his son takes his place. Thus the legend of the Phantom has continued for over 200 years.

This second Phantom series was a four-issue mini-series that debuted in 1988—over fifty years after the first appearance of the Phantom in comics. Originally appearing as a newspaper comic strip, the Phantom made the transition to comic books in 1962 and was published sporadically until 1977. Now this modern title introduces this classic hero to a new generation of readers.
