Moon Mullins (St. John)
(St. John, 1948-1949)
©1949 News Syndicate Co.
Soon after World War I, while working for The Chicago Tribune, Frank Willard created his most famous comic strip, Moon Mullins—a young, poor, cigar smokin’ street-wise kid who struggled on to find fame, women and fortune. His story was every young man’s story in those days.
Prior to the Golden Age, comic books were merely re-print collections of popular newspaper strips. In 1948, St. John Publishing picked up that practice and produced this short run series, featuring strips that spotlight Mullins’ younger brother, Kayo. Also featured is cute little redheaded Kitty Higgins, one of Kayo’s pals.
