Astronauts Taylor, Stewart, Landon, and Dodge have been away for a while—and while it only seems like 18 months to them, they’ve been traveling near the speed of light all that time. According to Hasslein’s theory, to the world outside, they’ve been gone for almost 2,000 years. When they return, things will have become very different on Mother Earth.

While they were away, apes had risen in a great rebellion to become masters of the planet. In doing so, they have built great civilizations, and treat humans as no more than pets. The returning astronauts face a world turned upside down—a Planet of the Apes.
