Witchblade

Witchblade, created by Marc Silvestri and published by Image Comics, debuted in December of 1995. Police Detective Sara Pezzini’s life was changed forever when she discovered the Witchblade, a bio-mechanical weapon. At first, Sara was very afraid of the Witchblade, but soon became accustomed, if not addicted, to the powerful killing tool. Finding herself haunted by nightmares concerning friends who were murdered, she decided to use the Witchblade to avenge those senseless crimes. But she must keep the knowledge of the Witchblade secret from her friends as well as those who know of its existence and would kill to acquire it.

Although Image co-founder and artist Marc Silvestri created Witchblade, he did not write or illustrate any of the issues. Nevertheless, Witchblade managed to combine hints of sex and violence into a collector’s phenomenon, with a fury of bidding driving up the prices of early issues.
