Personality Comics specializes in brief biographies of pop culture stars, done up in comic book form. Under their flagship line, Personality Comics profiled everyone from porn star Traci Lords to Arnold Schwarzenegger. In this ten-issue series, they give biographies of the cast members of the original Star Trek crew. (A simultaneously introduced series The New Crew profiles the crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

The series leads off with a bio of William Shatner, a.k.a. Captain James T. Kirk. Aside from noting that he grew up in Montreal, Quebec, and that his father didn’t want him to become an actor, it sheds precious little light on the subject. Instead of taking on such easy targets as his perpetual overacting, or embarrassing choice of roles (T.J. Hooker?), it merely fawns over Shatner at nauseating length. Similar treatment is given to nearly every other star profiled.
