Weird Melvin

™ and ©1991-1995 Marc Hansen

Marc Hansen’s Weird Melvin is a zany, surprisingly fun comic in the tradition of Ralph Snart Adventures. Originally appearing in 1991, it ran as a series of strips in Comic Buyer’s Guide. In 1995, Hansen this series appeared, giving readers new Melvin adventures, as well as reprinting the old CBG strips in order and uncut.

In the story, Weird Melvin was actually a comic book put out in 1952 by Lloyd Gorpon, starring a Hulk-like monster who later became a monster-slayer. It ran only two issues, after which Gorpon hung himself over the low sales. However, a crazed fan used black magic to bring Gorpon back from the dead, forcing him to create new issues. Meanwhile, another fanboy known only as “the Kid” managed to dig up a previously unknown issue which shows Melvin being killed and buried in a familiar place. The Kid then digs up Melvin, who turns out to be surprisingly lively for a fictional and dead monster-slayer!
