It seemed that with every Image team group shot, there was one figure standing in the background who seemed bigger than all the other heroes combined. With Youngblood it was Badrock, with WildC.A.T.s it’s Maul, and so on.

This one-shot special brings all these juggernaut characters together, ostensibly to save a far-off world from a threat that was prophesized some three thousand years before. Naturally, having this much musculature together on one planet is just asking for trouble, and when they’re not mowing through armies of bad guys, they’re just as likely to get in trouble with each other.

The comic would probably be a pretty big mess if writer Tom Harrington wasn’t having such a good time with the whole thing. The individual characters all get time to ham it up, staying larger than life while seemingly being fully aware of the clichés that they’re expected to fall into.
