The Pink Panther (Gold Key)

The Pink Panther is about cool style, swing, swank, sophistication, sixties, attitude and color. Especially pink. It’s the color of cool. Do you have a sense of cool? Take it from someone who knows. At the time, the Pink Panther was the most hip cartoon star in Hollywood. Film audiences of all ages, sophisticated cinema patrons and drive-in denizens alike loved the high style, clever humor and colorful adventures of this pink-inked feline. The cool contemporary style of the design and graphics connected with Henry Mancini’s distinctive theme music and pantomime comedy were a complete departure from typical theatrical cartoons. Friz Freleng created the cartoon character for the opening title sequence of Blake Edward’s 1964 comedy The Pink Panther and received reviews that were as good or better than the film itself! Created for the theaters and adults, the Pink Panther has made a successful transition to television and comics.
