Hairbutt the Hippo: Soft Boiled Tales

This collection of short tales features the animorphic hippo, Hairbutt the Hippo—a lumbering, buffoon of a detective. Spoofing a variety of comics and TV shows, this one–off comic is mildly entertaining, with commendable artwork throughout. The highlight of the book is a spoof of Frank Miller’s Sin City: That Yellow Bastard starring Hairbutt as the down on his luck anti–hero and a giant female hippo as the damsel in distress. A stripper hippo should get at least mild laughs. One side note—apparently the creators of this Australian comic never heard of Richard Starking’s and ComicCraft’s creation Hip Flask or I would suspect a copyright suit to be flying their way!
