Read right to left; black and white series.

In Japan, comics about athletes share the same space with titles about giant robots, magical girls, and ninjas. Rebound, reprinted and translated in English for an American audience by Tokyopop, brings an obscure genre to the U.S. market. In this sequel to Harlem Beat, teenager Nate Torres, once a quitter, discovers his self-confidence by playing basketball. Although the series centers around basketball, it isn’t just about sports. Romance and family relationships are explored, giving the characters depth. It’s also quite funny, making Rebound appealing even to readers who may despise basketball. Yuriko Nishiyama has taken what is normally an unmarketable genre in the American comics industry and made it accessible to the mainstream with heartfelt dialogue and good humor.
