Doctor Fate (3rd Series)

Doctor Fate and Hector Hall were made for each other. Not only have a long line of wannabes assumed the mantle of Fate, but also Hall is now on his third costumed identity. Fate also seems to have had bad luck holding down a series, so this five-issue limited series should be perfect for him.

This issue essentially sets the stage by establishing Fate-Hall as the mystical guardian of the DC universe in general and Salem, Mass., in particular. We are also introduced to a band of local mystics who are aware of Fate’s surreptitious activities. It’s too soon in the story to judge the plot itself.

The interior art is especially attractive: crisp with lots of attention to detail. The cover, on the other hand, is a pretty generic pin-up picture that doesn’t do much to represent the contents or sell the issue.
