House of Java

Following the critical acclaim of his first indie graphic novel for NBM Publishing, House of Java, Mark Murphy presents readers with an ongoing story collection sharing the same title. Structured as a series of normally unrelated, short vignettes, House of Java relies upon dialogue-driven writing to find insight and often humor in mundane, everyday situations. Though most stories in this black and white compilation focus on the social and romantic interactions of 20-something urbanites, Murphy occasionally delves into nostalgic tales about childhood in the mid-70s as well. His naturalistic and often disjointed approach to dialogue is reminiscent of the writing in such films as Kevin Smith’s Clerks and other comic books like Brian Michael Bendis’ Powers.
