The Immortal Doctor Fate

    (DC, 1985)
DC

This three-issue mini-series retells some of the greatest adventures of the original Doctor Fate from his appearances in More Fun Comics and First Issue Special. This Doctor Fate was once a boy named Kent Nelson, son of archaeologist Sven Nelson. Accompanying his father on one of his expeditions, Kent stumbled across the tomb of the mage Nabu, who had been frozen in time for millennia. Opening the tomb released a deadly gas which killed Kent’s father…but the strangest was yet to come.

Kent watched in awe as Nabu arose from the tomb. It was revealed that Nabu was an exiled Lord of Order, exhausted after thousands of years fighting his battles. He would need to pick a new champion—and that champion was to be Kent. Using his magic, Nabu transformed 12-year-old Kent into a young man, then handed him a golden helmet. Whenever Kent donned it, he turned into someone else—the mystical force known as Doctor Fate.
