Secret Six

    (DC, 1968-1969)
™ and ©1968 DC Comics, Inc.

Six people—brawny Mike Tempest, physicist Dr. August Durant, escape artist Carlos Di Rienzi, fashionable femme fatale Crimson Dawn, flying ace King Savage, and mistress of disguise Lili DeNeuve—each on the edge of despair and ruin, were saved by a mysterious figure known only as “the Mockingbird” and trained to become an international strike force of secret agents.

The espionage and intrigue angle of the Secret Six, reminiscent of the then-popular television series, Mission: Impossible, and the dynamic, reality-based artwork of Frank Springer represented something of a departure from the house style of fantasy-driven, super-hero publisher DC. Though not initially intended as a mini-series, the plot arc of Secret Six wrapped up nicely after seven issues and the title was discontinued.
