Revenge of the Oil Slick Ducks

Psycho, Ace, Bummer, Zook, Tank and Sarge are six grizzled war vets on a camping trip for a little rest and relaxation. Unfortunately the area where they set up camp becomes the site of a super-tanker’s oil spill. Rescuing his endangered buddies, (they are ducks after all), costs the appropriately named Bummer his life. The remaining ducks swear to avenge their fallen comrade by taking the fight to Belchco Industries, whose greedy and negligent president, J.B. Belcher, epitomizes the evil big-business stereotype. But unknown to the revenge-minded ducks, and even Belcher himself, an alien force with its own agenda may be the biggest threat.

This humor title was published the year after the Exxon-Valdez catastrophe and sought to use the heightened awareness of oil spills to educate readers to the very real dangers of pollution to life on earth. The inside back cover poster encourages discussion in school science class. Unfortunately, the “humor” of the Rambo-esque tactics and dialogue undercuts any serious message.
