Hitomi 2

    (Antarctic, 1993-1997)
™ and ©1995 Dave Wilson

High-tech espionage and combat form the backbone of this manga-style title from Dave Wilson. But it’s not all bumps and bruises being a commando, there’s heartache and bitching, companionship and romance, and a rather nasty set of corporate villains. Wilson’s sketchy art is very figure-focused, with backgrounds few and far between, but it’s good cartooning, and his endearingly wacky footnotes compliment a character-based writing style. The major fault of the title is that there are no concessions to anyone who can’t keep up, and a platoon of characters referencing to plot twists in previous issues all the time becomes a nuisance. Pity the poor person who read it during its bimonthly scheduled run.
