Binky

    (DC, 1970-1971, 1977)
™ and ©1971 DC Comics, Inc.

Binky is a lovable, but unlucky teenager whose efforts to impress girls, act chivalrous, or lend a helping hand almost always end in disaster. Binky is joined in his misadventures by his girlfriend, Peggy, and a collection of their teenage pals.

This series bears an uncanny resemblance to the Archie comics, with the possible exception that Binky makes a very obvious, and often clumsy effort to be “hip.” In Binky, the “chicks” are really “groovy” and the “cats” are “terrif!” The gags are often based around this generational lingo: “Someone stole my old bag!”—“You mean someone stole your mother?!”—“No, my purse!” However the funniest part of all is when DC’s editors try to use the same “with it” language to explain how they need to “rap” with their fans about needing to raise the price of their comics, etc.
