Sparky Watts
(Publication Enterprises, 1942-1949)
™ and ©1946 Publications Enterprises
Sparky Watts was a lighthearted adventure strip of the 1940s, written and drawn by Boody Rogers. Sparky, along with his pal Doc (the world’s greatest inventor) and Slap Happy (a big-footed, slow-witted oaf) travel the world in all manner of madcap plots. In their travels, they encounter spies, international crooks, supernatural creatures like mummies and werewolves, and the other staples of 1940s adventure fiction. Strongly inspired by humor/adventure strips like Alley Oop and Brick Bradford, Sparky Watts provided plenty of entertainment and fun, goofy stories, living up to the Columbia Comics motto, “clean comics for everyone.”
