The Superman Monster

    (DC, 1999)
™ and ©1999 DC Comics

It’s the 19th century, Switzerland, and brilliant scientist Vicktor Luthor feels he is on the verge of discovering the secret of life itself. But with his funding cut off and betrothed Eloise distracting him with talk of marriage, he might need a miracle to take the final step. Then he gets one, in the form of a rocket spacecraft crashing to earth. Its contents enable him to uncover the mysteries of life and death and create a monstrous and powerful creature…one who wears a stylized “S” on his chest.

Very loosely based on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, this bizarre Elseworlds tale features all of the best-known characters from the Superman mythos, albeit in a much different setting. Written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning and drawn by Anthony Williams.
