Graphic novel; b&w

A stranger in a strange land, Alice seems to be a girl stuck in Wonderland. Homesick for the country town of Hokkaido, she’s having trouble adjusting to the big city of Tokyo. That may be exacerbated by the fact that she has to baby-sit her mischievous neighbor Rin, who gets her into trouble by falling into a coma.

Meanwhile, Alice discovers other high–school students who may share the same secret dreams of déjà vu—that she once lived on the moon with these friends in another lifetime. However, when Rin reawakens, things get even more strange, as he demands that Alice become his bride and demonstrates a darker side of extraordinary power.

Written almost 20 years ago, this title was one of Viz’s early anime offerings on VHS and should be a familiar story to old fans. In this female fantasy genre, change doesn’t happen that fast, so this tale’s age isn’t a huge strike against it. However, in an age when current shojo stories are jam–packed with notes and pop–culture asides, Please Save My Earth may seem quaint for modern tastes.
