Millennium Edition: The Sandman

The concept had existed at DC Comics in one form or another for years. But it wasn’t until British writer Neil Gaiman tackled the notion in 1989 that the character of the Sandman became a sensation in comics’ literature. It was one of those books that catches not only the attention and imagination of adult comic book readers, but of people who didn’t read comics as well. Gaiman, with a variety of talented artists (including co-creators Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg), and the hypnotic covers of Dave McKean, created a whole mythology for his “Master of Dreams,” including his immortal siblings—Death, Desire, and Destiny, to name but a few.

Intricate stories touched on mythology, religion, and classic literature, not to mention stories and characters drawn from Gaiman’s own mind. Beauty, drama, horror, humor, and tragedy all in one. Some of the early issues of the 75-issue series are kind of pricey…making Millennium Editions like this one a popular choice.
