Two cosmic, omniscient Beings, bored with the current status quo and their original progeny, the First, debate the value of the Universe and its inhabitants. To re-ignite passion in the cosmos, the Beings decide to grant great power to a few select individuals throughout the universe. Physically branded with the mark of their God-like benefactors, the chosen warriors are left to their own inclinations on whether to use their new-found abilities for good or evil.

On the planet Tanipal, ex-soldier and spaceman-for-hire Samandahl Rey becomes the first to receive the mysterious Sigil, and the stress of his partner Roiya’s apparent death activates a destructive release of energy. Struggling to gain control of his new powers, Sam suddenly finds himself a one-man army caught in the middle of a three-way political war between the Humans, Saurians, and the Tanipali nobility.
