Wild Times: Deathblow

    (WildStorm, 1999)
™ and © 1999 WildStorm Productions and DC Comics

In a multi-title WildStorm Productions event, Wild Times takes five of the publisher’s most popular titles and drops them into pivotal points in American history (the Wild West, World War II, Prohibition, the Cold War and the 1960s), retelling their origins to fit accordingly. Think of it as a “What if this character or group had lived in this particular era” type of story.

Receiving the treatment this time around is the popular character of Deathblow. It’s 1899 and Michael Cray, a.k.a. Deathblow, is the last of a dying breed of old-time gunslingers. Selling his services and six guns to Sister Maria, a nun fighting to protect the world from a virtual Hell on Earth at the hands of Jason Brittles, the story plays out more like a past life experience for each of the characters rather than an alternate reality. A surprise appearance by DC Comics’ Jonah Hex only sweetens the tale.
