Crazy (Magazine)

Not to be confused with Marvel’s previous version of Crazy, which featured reprints from Not Brand Ecch, or Atlas Comics’ Crazy or even Charlton’s This Magazine is Crazy, this version of Crazy was Marvel’s 1970s answer to MAD. It succeeded quite well and was quite entertaining for the first 14 issues when editorial reigns were handled by Marv Wolfman (issue #1–10) and Steve Gerber (issue #11–14). When Paul Lamont (#15) and ultimately Paul Laikin (issue #16–60; 62) took over, the results were less than spectacular. Finally, a return to form took place with Larry Hama (issue #61; 63–94), but it was all in vain as the magazine quietly succumbed after 94 issues. Classic features include “Kaspar, the Dead Baby” in #8, the untold “origin” of Casper, the Friendly Ghost.
