Written and drawn by Ultimate Spider-Man scribe Brian Michael Bendis, Fire is an early effort by the popular crime/noir fiction master. The story follows the recruitment of a college student into the secret world of CIA super agents. Drawn in stark black and white - a strong juxtaposition to the many shades of gray found in the world of international politics - Bendis utilizes collages from real newspapers and magazines to set the backgrounds up for his written words. Before Bendis gained mass appeal with Daredevil, Alias, and Powers, it was independent Comix like Fire, Jinx and Torso that honed his knack for dead-on dialogue and twisting plot structures. This mini-series is a must-read for diehard Bendis fans or anyone looking for a great spy thriller.
