The Missing White Dragon
(Infinity, 2005)
™ and © 2003 Park Young Ha
An enchanting series of fantasy–themed short stories from Park Young Ha (Bambi), this manga anthology features tales about creatures from Asian mythology—such as dragons and fox spirits, and silver–horned demons; as well as modern–day stories about a young couple who try to use magic to fall in love… Each story is invariably a romantic’s romance starring luminous and starry–eyed teenagers, but Ha’s air–headed, carefree characters are so charmingly confident in the implicit certainty that everything will work out for them in their creator’s universe that it’s had to fault then for their vacuous nature.
Brought to you by Infinity Studios, a name perhaps familiar to readers from their previous collaboration with ComicsOne to bring the Infinity Studios–produced Péigenz to press, this young company is a relative late–comer to the manga scene, only having achieved establishment in January of 2004. But so far, Infinity seems to be succeeding at living up to its company pledge “to produce only the highest quality products worthy of becoming part of their collection” for its readers. And despite its newcomer status, Infinity is a studio to watch, having made its mark with a series of charmingly sweet fantasy romances (Animal Paradise, Witch Class) smartly geared at the burgeoning young female market in the U.S.
