The Sandman: The Dream Hunters

™ and ©1999 DC Comics

Sandman creator Neil Gaiman returns to the Dreaming to tell a haunting story of love and sacrifice based on a Japanese fairy tale. Presented as a novel instead of as a traditional comic, the story is beautifully illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano, known for his work in animation and fantasy art, including the cult classic Vampire Hunter D and the Final Fantasy video game.

Dream Hunters is the story of the unlikely love between a modest young monk and an enchantingly beautiful fox. But the monk’s fate is entwined with that of the onmyoji, Master of Yin-Yang. For one to live and prosper, the other must die. When the fox overhears demons plotting the monk’s demise, she seeks guidance from the King of All Night’s Dreaming. Unfortunately, the monk’s fate is not so easily escaped, and the fox, who would have gladly died in his place, is left alone, vengeance her only solace.
