Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Punisher: The Dark Design
(Marvel, 1991)
™ and ©1994 Marvel Entertainment Group
This deluxe one-shot was released in 1994 as the sequel to the best-selling “Hearts of Darkness.” Not treading far from the original, it brings Marvel’s three darkest heroes: Wolverine, Punisher, and Ghost Rider back to do battle with the personified forces of evil, Mephisto and his demonic son, Blackheart.
In the early 1990s, Punisher, Wolverine, and Ghost Rider were the box office stars of the Marvel Universe. They were crossed-over into various titles on a constant basis since fans would flock to collect any appearance of these grim heroes. By the time this graphic novel was released, however, their cachet had faded from the overexposure. This title (which was actually fairly significant in terms of its story outcome) failed to bring in the legions of fans that its predecessor had commanded.
