Author Brian Lumley has made something of a career with his “Necroscope” horror/fantasy books. Book II of this series, “Wamphyri” is adapted in comic form in this five-part mini-series.

Necroscopes are powerful telepaths who are able to communicate with the dead. Of late, they have been employed by both the Russian and British governments as tools to break into each others’ secrets. This strange take on modern warfare got even stranger when the Brits’ Harry Keogh, perhaps the most powerful psychic known in the world, was killed battling Boris Dragosani, an independent necromancer and vampire operating within Russian borders. Even though Dragosani was killed in the battle, other vampires (or Wamphyri, as Lumley prefers to call them) have survived. And even death—where Necromancers and Wamphyri are concerned—is hardly the end of things.
