Doctor Mid-Nite
(DC, 1999)

This Prestige Format mini-series introduces a new Doctor Mid-Nite to the DC Universe. After completing his residency under Dr. Charles McNider (the Golden Age Doctor Mid-Nite), our modern-day hero—who will eventually join the Y2K version of the Justice Society of America—succeeds in both the medical profession and in his elective endeavors as a super-hero. Created by Matt Wagner (Grendel, Mage), this Doctor Mid-Nite is a bit grimmer than the original, but he is nonetheless intriguing—far from the one-note, stone-faced vigilante-type that became popular in the 1980s. Wagner’s Doc even makes use of his medical training in his super-heroing, which find his facing off against updated versions of some old-time Batman foes—the Terrible Trio—in this first adventure.
