Xanadu (Thoughts & Images)

Xanadu was one of the better anthropomorphic fantasy series to appear in the late 1980s. Drawn by V.M. Wyman, it features clean, uncluttered art that effectively communicates both action and emotion. The story itself centers around Empress Alicia, who is doing her best to hold together the empire of Xanadu established by her father Allynrud. One of her own nobles, Reginald Plume, resented serving under Alicia, doubly so now that the golden dragon Kinomon was installed as his second-in-command. Feeling his place at court threatened, he lashed out with a plot of his own to rid himself of Kinomon and to further his own ambitions. Luckily for Alicia, she not only has hidden enemies, but also unexpected allies in the form of an adventure-seeking thief and his erstwhile partner. Taken altogether, Xanadu is an enjoyable story of love, intrigue, and adventure.
