Brian Biggs, the creator of Frederick & Eloise: A Love Story, produced his second book, this four-part series of unusual size and content. Dear Julia relates the story of Boyd Soloman, a slightly unhinged man who has an obsession with flight. Boyd and his girlfriend Julia find a dead man in the Arizona desert, and two years later, he is stalked by Leo Legyscapo, who produces evidence that the man flew using artificial wings. The story is told through the format of letter, written to Julia, intended to warn her of
Legyscapo’s approach. The series is oblique and slow-paced, and doesn’t present a firm, objective interpretation of reality. Brian Biggs is an undeservedly underrated cartoonist, and this series shows his talents for bizarre, unusual comics.
