The New Adventures of Judo Joe

    (Animated Comics Enterprises, 1987)
™ and ©1987 Ace Comics, Inc.

An obscure teen character is resurrected—and also reprinted—in this late 1980s series. Judo Joe first appeared in 1953 in a short-lived book from the Jay Jay Corporation. A martial arts hero even predating Judomaster, Judo Joe is actually Joe Smith, a sophomore at Mid-City High. Writer Joe Gill and illustrator Dan Carroll replicate the easy-to-read, straightforward storytelling and clean art of the original Judo Joe tales, two of which are revived in the first issue.

In his contemporary re-appearance, Judo Joe dresses as a woman to catch a couple of muggers. The stories are filled low-key humor and morality lessons.
