The War

    (Marvel, 1989-1990)
Marvel

Pittsburgh had been utterly demolished, turned into a huge crater by some unknown force (as told in The Pitt). In a panic, the government began rounding up individuals with paranormal abilities, conscripting them into the military as a special fighting force (see the graphic novel, The Draft). Unfortunately, the stress proved too much for one of the new soldiers, a man named Blowout who had the ability to teleport from place to place, causing massive explosions at the point he had departed from. When last seen, Blowout had used his powers to escape from the military, then assassinate the president on live TV.

As this final part of the trilogy begins, Blowout had killed hundreds at the Pentagon and the Alamo before falling under the influence of the Ayatollah. Meanwhile, terrorists in Mozambique take responsibility for the Pitt in a plan that turns the super-powers against each other. Before long, the missiles were flying—and the War had begun.
